Fuel Injection Problems

Fuel Injection Problems
after mods on a 2001 X1

Okay, I've gutted the airbox, added the race ecm, (with TPS reset) and added the White Brothers pipe. Now the power is good, but it won't run at a constant throttle. It's like riding a two stroke thats fouling the plugs. Lots of surging and near stalling. The check engine light has only lit up once. I checked cylinder compression 125-130 both, oil consumption seems flat (can't ride it much) and gas mileage is way down, from 180-200/tank to 112-140/tank. Here's a shot of the plugs, these are screaming eagle ex12S. I fouled the stock plugs a couple times installing the pipe, so I tried a splitfire type plugs. I attributed the fouling to lots of idling in 20 degree weather. I think these plugs are the same as the buell splitfires, just without buell on the side.

So does this sound like another TPS reset?

Solution: this is what happens when your engine temp sensor goes bad. The part that kills me is I had it at two shops for a total of 5 times. I bought the manual (www.sporttwin.com), made the check engine test wire (2" of 18 guage and two butt connectors), checked the ECM and sure enough, the code showed a dead ET sensor. 30 dollars later, she runs like a champ. I have 11,000 mile on her now (8000 since the problem last occurred). Moral of the story, fix it yourself.
